Leave This 1 Mixture on Your Windowsill and Get Rid of Stink Bugs, Ladybugs, and Window Pests

If you often find insects near your windows, especially during autumn or spring, you are not alone. Many homes are invaded by insects like the Brown marmorated stink bug, the Ladybug, and the Boxelder bug. These insects are attracted to warmth, light, and small openings around windows, which is why they gather on windowsills.

But there is a simple homemade mixture that many people use to trap and repel these pests naturally.

The Simple Windowsill Mixture

This mixture works as both a trap and a natural repellent, and the best part is that it only requires a few basic household items.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup white vinegar (you can get cleaning vinegar on Amazon here)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon dish soap (a strong dish soap works best — you can find one on Amazon here)
  • Optional: peppermint essential oil (a very effective natural insect repellent — you can get it on Amazon here)
  • Optional: lemon essential oil (you can find it on Amazon here)

You will also need a small bowl or glass container to place on the windowsill (you can find suitable small glass bowls on Amazon here).

How to Prepare the Mixture

  1. Pour the vinegar and water into a small bowl.
  2. Add the dish soap and mix gently.
  3. Add a few drops of peppermint or lemon essential oil.
  4. Place the bowl on your windowsill where insects usually gather.
  5. Leave it overnight.

Most people start seeing fewer insects within a few days.

Why This Mixture Works

Dish soap breaks the surface tension of the liquid, which means insects cannot stand on the surface and will sink. Vinegar and peppermint oil act as natural repellents, especially for the Brown marmorated stink bug, which hates strong smells.

If you want to make a spray instead of a bowl trap, you can mix the same ingredients in a spray bottle (you can get a good spray bottle on Amazon here) and spray around window frames and corners.
