How To Make Honey-Fermented Ginger + My Easy Ginger Peeling Hack

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ginger: Peel and slice the ginger thinly for maximum surface area.
  2. Peeling Hack: Use a spoon to scrape off the ginger skin gently. This helps you remove the skin easily without losing too much of the ginger root. Hold the spoon’s edge firmly and scrape downwards to peel without the hassle of using a knife.
  3. Jar Preparation: Place the sliced ginger in a clean, dry glass jar, leaving about an inch of space at the top for expansion during fermentation.
  4. Add Honey: Pour raw honey over the ginger slices until they are fully submerged. Stir to ensure the ginger is well-coated, then seal the jar loosely (important for gases to escape).
  5. Fermentation: Leave the jar in a cool, dark place for 1–2 weeks. Check it daily, stirring to keep the ginger submerged and release any trapped gases. You’ll notice bubbles forming as it ferments.
  6. Storage: Once fermentation is to your taste, transfer the jar to the refrigerator to slow the process. Honey-fermented ginger can be kept for several months.
