14 Practical Ways to Upcycle Toilet Paper Rolls

Seed Starters:

Toilet paper rolls are perfect for starting seeds. Simply cut rolls in half, fill them with soil, plant seeds, and keep them moist until seedlings are ready for transplanting. When ready, plant the roll directly in the ground as it will decompose.

Compostable Plant Pots:

Use entire toilet paper rolls as biodegradable pots. Place soil and seeds inside, and once the plant outgrows the roll, plant it directly in the garden, where it will naturally decompose.

DIY Root Protectors:

Prevent pests like cutworms from harming young plants by placing a toilet paper roll around the base of each seedling. Push the roll slightly into the soil for a biodegradable protective barrier.

Plant Markers:

Cut and flatten toilet paper rolls, then write plant names on them. Stick them into the soil next to seedlings to keep track of different plants.

Mulch Creators:

Tear up toilet paper rolls and add them to mulch around plants to help retain moisture and gradually add organic material to the soil as they break down.

Bird Feeders:

Coat the roll with peanut butter and roll it in birdseed. Hang it from a tree to attract birds that can help control insects in the garden.

Mini Composters:

Use toilet paper rolls to create small composters. Place food scraps inside and bury them near plants. This will decompose and add nutrients directly to the soil.
